You’ve just spent a fabulous time on Cape Cod soaking up the sun on its picturesque beaches, aimlessly strolling through quaint downtowns, enjoying a good read in your rented beach house, eating your fair share of fresh seafood, and maybe even taking in a spectacular whale watch. Overall, it was an incredible vacation with the most relaxing vibes making you never want to leave! The atmosphere just has a magnetism that draws you in. As the old song goes, “You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod.”
But unfortunately, vacations come to an end and we have to return to the real world once again. Ugh! Don’t worry though, we have some tips to help you recapture those vibes back at home. As people who have fallen in love with this coastal destination ourselves, we have a few interior design tricks up our sleeves that will help you conjure up some calming Cape memories right in your own home.
Tips for Incorporating Cape Cod Vibes into Your Interior Design
Blues and Beach Hues
It’s no wonder being on Cape Cod brings on serene moods. When you’re there, you’re enveloped by varying shades of blues, greens and neutral tans; hues that ground us and connect us with nature, creating an incredible calming effect on our bodies. Bring those same light and airy coastal color palettes into your interior design choices. Paint your walls one shade, then incorporate the other hues as foundation pieces or accents.

Vintage Items
Cape Cod style is all about timeless charm. Its villages are steeped in history and its interior design reflects that deep heritage. Think vintage pieces that stand the test of time and get passed through the generations, such as old quilts, mirrors, oyster plates, wooden bowls, pottery, and candlesticks.
Classic Furniture
While the Cape Cod style is laid back, it’s also traditional and refined. You’ll find old brown furniture reminiscent of the early American period (antique mahogany and dark wood pieces) and classic Windsor chairs mixed in with well-worn rugs, overstuffed sofas, natural wicker, and plank or wainscot walls.

Nod to Nautical
In any true Cape Cod beach house you’ll also find something a bit nautical, whether it’s overt or subtle. You could add a jar of shells you collected during your travels, a bowl full of colorful beach glass, sea-themed artwork, blue and white striped textiles, or even a bold blue and white patterned wallpaper.
When designing, harken back to what it is about Cape Cod’s style that made you feel so good – we bet it was the overall look of easy, effortless comfort. Hopefully our tips will help you achieve it!
